Let’s face it, window and door screens get broken, torn and ripped. Whether it’s from your kid’s baseball, your pet, or your friend who had one too many late night patio beers – life happens. The good news is that there are a TON of places around town that repair screens. We chose to focus on small mom-and-pop hardware stores and there’s probably one close to where you live. Screen Repair Process

After calling on all of these stores to verify that they repair screens, there are some general takeaways. All stores require that you bring the screens in. Many have in-house screen repair technicians. Some stores that have multiple locations may have one screen repair specialist at a certain store that services all of their sister locations. A few stores we talked to have a 3rd party screen repair specialist that does weekly pickups, repairs them off site and returns them to the store for customer pickup. Some are able to repair the frames and other components, while some do not. Screen repair lead time – the most common response is 1-2 weeks, but some are pretty backed up since apparently everyone waits to repair their screens in the spring. A handful of stores said they currently have a 3-6 week turnaround time on screen repair.

The cost to repair screens depends on a few factors – screen material type, colors, frame type, and whether or not there is damage to internal hardware components. That being said a good ballpark cost calculation estimate for screen repair is [(Height + Width) x $0.25].
